Ethics and Marketing: Where are we headed?
This year’s PixelMark Scholarship program theme is one that we are concerned about as a marketing organization.
But marketing affects all of us, not just marketing companies.
In the digital age, marketing is moving at a lightning speed with companies vying for the increasingly limited attention of their audiences. Advertising messages and marketing avenues are constantly changing. It is inevitable that this change will result in some interesting ethical dilemmas.
We will award a total of $1,750 in cash scholarships for the students who can address a current ethical dilemma through either a 600 word essay or a two-minute video presentation.
Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants must be high school seniors or college freshmen who have earned less than 16 credit hours and must live in the El Paso/Las Cruces area. All applicants must be planning to attend one of the following universities and plan to study Communication, Advertising, and/or Graphic Design:

- El Paso Community College
- University of Texas, El Paso
- Doña Ana Branch Community College
Employees of PixelMark and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter the scholarship contest.

2018 PixelMark Scholarship Topic

“Given the dramatic changes in technology and social media over the last 20 years, what do you think is the greatest ethical dilemma facing marketers and advertisers today? Please cite a recent event where a business or organization faced an ethical dilemma or crisis relating to advertising.”
The winner will be awarded based on the applicant’s creativity in addressing this question, ability to identify and explain the key problems surrounding that issue, and the quality of the submission. We encourage applicants to use creativity in their presentation, whether it is video or written.
